THOUGHT OF THE DAY
Mother Mary of Jesus
  • The joys of Jesus and the joys of Mary are bought only by suffering. May this remain well-en graven on your heart.1

XXIII General Chapter - July 4th

July 4, 2007
Daily we experience the richness of our internationality in the Eucharistic Liturgy and the prayer prepared by sisters of different provinces and regions. This morning, sisters from Colombia, Panama and Peru prepared beautifully. Just imagine the sound of guitars and the rhythms of Latin America!
Today Christine Barrière, General Superior, and the General Councillors presented a report on the life of the Sisters of Marie Reparatrice/Mary Reparatrix over the last six years using words and images. “And God saw that it was good.” With this quote from Genesis 1, Christine expressed thanksgiving for all that the General Council and the Congregation had experienced since 2001.
The 130 journeys of the Council to various parts of the congregation gave them a large view and an understanding of the whole. They witnessed the deep joy sisters experience in living the call to reparation with Mary. They could see the good grain and the weeds that grow in the field of the congregation, a field which has broadened since the Chapter of 2001. Indeed, we have grown more sensitive to the challenges of the world around us and so we ask at this Chapter, “What can we do with so great a love?” The love of God urges response.
After a long day of listening, reflecting and sharing, we anticipate an evening of relaxation. Last night sisters from France brought tears of laughter with a skit on French bread so typical of their culture. Using dance, the sisters from Madagascar told us about the lamba, a traditional cloth men and women use for different purposes in daily life. We also learned the importance of the cow has in the life of the Malagasy people. What will we learn and enjoy tonight about Canada and the States?
