Assembly of the Region of Uganda/Kenya

Entebbe
January 7th to 11th 2009

7th January

The Assembly began on the evening of the 7th with a prayer prepared by the community of Ngong, Kenya. The reading was from Acts 2,42ff..

Sr. Annette Namugambe, regional superior, welcomed the sisters and then gave her report on the region. As well as the sisters from Uganda/Kenya, two sisters from Butembo, Congo and the three sisters who are in synthesis time from Madagascar, were also present.

Sr. Francis Nantale, regional bursar, then presented the financial report. After some time of personal reflection we shared our reactions to the two reports.

8th January

On the 8th, 9th and 10th Mass was celebrated at 07.00 in our chapel. The Liturgy was prepared by the community of Entebbe.

The theme for the 8th and 9th was Human Sexuality and Consecrated Life in the African context, given by Brother Eugene Kabanguka, Marist and Provincial of Central and Eastern Africa. We reflected on the psychological aspects of celibate life, sexuality, maturity and building of community with input, plenary sessions and group work.

9th January

Kagoma community animated the Liturgy. Br. Eugene continued the theme with the same method and treated of the following aspects: rules for communication in a caring community, solving problems arising in community living, immature and mature solutions … We finished with a prayer of Pope John Paul I : Take me Lord as I am, with my qualities and my defects, but make me become as you desire me to be.

10th January

The Liturgy was prepared by Bisanje community. In the morning the regional council transmitted the meeting which was held in Mauritius with Srs. María Luisa Antolín. the general bursar and Dolores Diez de Revenga, general councillor. Each community then presented its reality and budget, followed by clarifications.

In the afternoon, Mrs Sylvia Katete Gavigan, Honorary Consular Commissioner to Ireland, gave us a presentation on Project Management. She spoke of her own experience and helped us with questions in groups and reflections in plenary session.

After the break each community met to revise the personal budgets and see where they could be reduced.

11th January

We began the day with prayer prepared by Entebbe community. We then responded to three questions: What are my feelings? What touched me and what helped me most during the day? What did I resist and what is it saying to me? We had a very good sharing where the sisters responded freely to these questions.
Mass was celebrated at 12 noon.

In the afternoon members of the regional teams presented their plans: Justice and Peace, initial Formation, Ongoing Formation, Communication, Finances, Vocation Promotion.

After the break we shared in two groups: perpetually professed sisters and temporary professed sisters. This was a spontaneous sharing with an open agenda.
We concluded our Assembly with prayer and a festive evening meal in the garden.
