A COW FOR THE BISANJE COMMUNITY
During the third year of 2009 the group went to visit our community in Bisanje. We were struck by the community cow that was sick at the time and later died. When Sr. Stephanie returned to Cork, Ireland she told her community and friends of the community about the cow. The people who join the community for Sunday mass send a donation for the purchase of a new cow for the community. The new cow arrived in February 2010 and is doing well.
CAR BOOT SALE IN AID OF MAPEERA SCHOOL, ENTEBBE, UGANDA
Recently, we closed our house in Douglas, Cork, Ireland. Some of the furnishings of the house, particularly kitchen utensils were not required in any other house. Srs. Pauline Clarke and Stephanie Coughlan decided to go to a car boot sale and sell the items in aid of Mapeera Primary School, Entebee parish Uganda. Sr. Regina Nankya is director and Sr. Gorette Nampewo is administrator of the school. The school comprises of 4 teachers and approximately 65 students. The funds gained from the sale will be used towards the purchase of materials for the school.
CANDLE MAKING MACHINE IN THE PRE-NOVITIATE COMMUNITY, NAIROBI
In 2009, Sr. Immaculate Wambui on behalf of the pre-novitiate community in Nairobi, Kenya sent a request to the Development Office for funds for a candle making machine. Thanks to our Spanish Sisters Solidarity fund we were able to send money to the community towards the purchase of the machine. I quote from Sr. Antonett’s letter detailing the difference the machine makes; “The process used to take a whole day to make 30 candles. With the machine it takes an hour to make hundred candles, so it saves time” We wish the community well with the new machine.
